Han Dynasty Yueling studies, as a unique knowledge system integrating astronomical phenomena and imperial governance, have long suffered from fragmented research perspectives, necessitating systematic theoretical reconstruction.Through textual reinterpretation and institutional practice, Han Yueling studies completed a paradigm shift from practical seasonal manuals to cosmological legal codes, driven by the dynamic interplay between astronomical observation and imperial political demands.By tracing textual divergence, doctrinal evolution, ritual reconstruction, and paradigmatic differentiation, this study deciphers the interaction between Yueling hermeneutics and political praxis, revealing the inherent logic of Han Confucianism in synthesizing cosmic and human orders.Western Han seasonal texts formed a pluralistic knowledge system through intellectual synthesis. While Lüshi Chunqiu and Shi Ze Xun established a "celestial-policy" correspondence via twelve-month frameworks, Guanzi's "thirty-season" system and military texts like Yinqueshan Han Slips emphasized utilitarian governance. Dong Zhongshu redefined Five Phases as ethical cosmology, while legal documents blended Qin statutes with Confucian moral governance, laying foundations for imperial legitimacy. The Eastern Han witnessed Yueling's numerological turn and ritual institutionalization. Under Wei Xiang and Li Xun, Yueling transformed from taboos to calendrical systems. Jing Fang’s "sixty-pitch" theory and Liu Xin’s "harmony of pitch and calendar" model expanded its mathematical and symbolic dimensions. Wang Mang’s Mingtang rituals elevated Yueling into political symbolism, marking its transition from knowledge to statecraft orthodoxy.Eastern Han Yueling studies bifurcated into "mathematical empiricism" and "Confucian symbolism." Cai Yong reconstructed celestial coordinates via Sifen Li measurements, creating an open system accommodating temporal changes. Zheng Xuan, prioritizing Zhouli, embedded astral phenomena into ethical frameworks through "star-field correlations." Their divergences in acoustics and institutional interpretation epitomized the tension between Han scholastic rationalism and symbolic hermeneutics.Cai Yong and Zheng Xuan’s interpretive divergence reflected ontological fissures in Han Confucianism. Cai treated Yueling as a flexible knowledge repository, sustaining Han institutions through "adaptive methodologies." Zheng deconstructed Yueling to reconstruct an idealized Zhou model via Zhouli absolutism. Both strategies demonstrated Eastern Han scholars’ ingenuity in reconciling political crises with classical authority.Han Yueling studies evolved through the dialectics of tian (cosmos) and wang (governance): Western Han synthesized "heaven-human correspondence" frameworks, while Eastern Han bifurcated into empirical and symbolic paradigms. Its development followed three dialectics:1)open knowledge systems versus closed doctrinal structures; 2)astronomical empiricism counterbalancing political symbolism; 3)pragmatic governance needs contesting historical classicism. This "dynamic equilibrium" enabled Yueling to maintain cosmological coherence while retaining political relevance, ultimately shaping China’s classical paradigm of "astronomical statecraft."
