优质的城市夜景不仅在于提供实用与美学方面的品质,从符号学角度来看,它还是人们用于表达与沟通意义的重要媒介。当前城市夜景建设面临同质化加剧的挑战。本文以光照变化引起夜景形态的视觉变化为契机,将通过照明实践来组织夜景符号进行意义建构的问题作为应对同质化现象的极具潜力的方向。城市夜景作为人为景观,是经由实践主体的意义建构,生产的具有表意功能的符号系统。本文以“意义”为中心,引入符号学、心理学、消费者研究等领域理论,以城市夜景符号的基本结构、形态构成与意义特征为起点,以夜景符号表达意义的内在机制探讨为核心,建立理解夜景形态重构的设计思维模型与方法。本文首先提出了由夜景符号的形态、对象与阐释项三个要件构成的夜景研究三元符号学模型。其中夜景符号的形态与意义关联的过程,是设计主体通过照明实践对城市夜景进行重构(即视觉形态重塑与视觉意义重释)的过程。基于此,本文提出了在意义维度上整合夜景形态的“意义性照明实践”概念。论文在分别对模型的三个构成要件深入分析的基础上,明确了夜景形态的四个分析层次(形态属性、形态元素、形态显现、视觉场景),总结了夜景符号的认知过程与交流机制。并在对夜景符号从浅到深的三类意义成分分析的基础上,进一步发展出了能够建构夜景符号的识别性、身份认同与原真性的表意模式框架。该框架有助于实践主体识别夜景符号不同意义成分对观看者的潜在影响,引导他们采用不同表意模式,组合形成特定的意义性照明实践策略,以呼应特定场地的功能、特征与在地主体性,实现对城市不同功能空间夜间视觉场景的系统性特色重构。本研究能够使我们批判性地反思与解读城市夜景的视觉意义,以夜景形态为中介,建构充满意义的夜景符号系统。论文形成的核心结论如下:首先,本文提出的夜景研究三元符号学模型,打破了原有的符码规则,使得夜景意义建构对于实践主体与观看者来说,具有流动与开放的特性。其次,夜景意义建构是在不同形态层面上将光影与对象叠加,形成不同层次的夜景形态与意义交织的复杂句法关系。第三,夜景符号同时在表层与深层上传达意义,夜景“显性”与“隐性”符号系统被重构,夜景“混合”意义被诠释。最后,夜间视觉场景随着 “语境”与“主体”的变化,不断地“再结构”化,持续地形成新的视觉秩序与意义结构。
A good quality urban nightscape not only provides practical and aesthetic qualities, but from a semiotic point of view, it is also an important medium used by people to express and communicate meaning. The current urban nightscape construction faces the challenge of increasing homogenization. This paper takes the visual change of nightscape forms caused by light changes as an opportunity to organize the issue of meaning construction of nightscape symbols through lighting practice as a highly potential direction to deal with the phenomenon of homogenization. As an artificial landscape, urban nightscape is a product of human design semiotic activities. It is a sign system with representational function produced through the meaning construction process of the practicing subject. This paper constructs a research perspective centered on "meaning", and by introducing theories from semiotics, philosophy of culture, environmental psychology, consumption research, aesthetics, phenomenology, etc., and taking the basic structure, form analysis and meaning characteristics of urban nightscape signs as the starting point, and exploring the intrinsic mechanism of the nightscape signs‘ expression of meanings as the core, it aims to establish a design thinking model and methodological tools for understanding the reconstruction of nightscape forms.Based on the openness and dynamism of Peirce‘s semiotic theory, this paper proposes a ternary semiotic model for nightscape research, which is jointly composed of the form, object and interpretant of nightscape forms. As a derivative structured analysis system and an open design discourse system, the model can provide a reference and dialogical comparison platform for the deepening, expanding and competing of subsequent theories, and the proposal and improvement of related design thinking tools. The process of correlating the "form" and "meaning" of nightscape signs is the process of reshaping the form and reinterpreting the meaning of nightscape through the lighting practice of the practice subject, and this paper proposes the concept of "meaningful lighting practice" which integrates the form of nightscape on the meaning dimension. Based on this, this paper proposes the concept of "meaningful lighting practice" which integrates nightscape forms in the dimension of meaning. Based on an in-depth analysis of the elements in the triadic semiotic model, this paper develops the semiotic layers of nightscape forms and summarizes the cognitive process of nightscape signs and the mechanism of interpretation and communication. Considering the influence of the "sign-object" relationship on the subject‘s interpretation, this paper further proposes a theoretical framework of "Meaningful Lighting Practice" to enhance the legibility, identity and authenticity of the nightscape signs on the basis of the categorization and stratification of nightscape meanings. This framework helps lighting practitioners to identify the potential impact of the meaning components of nightscape signs on the viewers, and guides them to adopt different combinations of ideological modes to form a specific meaningful lighting practice strategy, so as to realize the systematic construction of nighttime visual scenes in different functional spaces in the city. In this study, typical and representative night scene cases are also analyzed to reflect the wide applicability of the theoretical model and analytical framework.This study enables us to critically reflect on and interpret the visual meanings of nighttime urban landscapes, and systematically construct a meaning system for urban nighttime landscapes, using nighttime forms as a mediator to construct nighttime landscapes full of meanings, so as to reconnect the place with all aspects of people‘s lives, societies, and cultures, from the physical to the spiritual. The core conclusions of this paper are as follows: firstly, the dynamic structural relationship of nightscape signs breaks the rules of symbol code, so that the construction of nightscape meaning has the characteristics of flow and openness. Secondly, the subject of practice carries out meaningful lighting activities at different levels of form, constructing a complex relationship between different levels of nightscape form and meaning. Thirdly, the subject of practice utilizes the night scene forms to play a role and convey meanings on the surface and deep level, and constructs a symbol system with rich connotation and diverse forms. Finally, the visual and semantic order of the night scene is continuously restructured with the changes of "context" and "subject".
