Art provides psychotherapists with therapeutic tools, while the complex inner world of individuals inspires artists’ creative concepts and themes. Individuals can achieve psychological healing through the creation of art, viewing art, and interacting with art. With the integration of art and technology, new interactive methods offer new possibilities for art therapy. Individuals can deeply explore their inner world in digital spaces, facilitating emotional and psychological reconstruction and healing. This study aims to explore the sources of healing within interactive narrative art design and to investigate a framework for interactive narrative design based on art therapy, combining interactive narrative design with narrative therapy to offer audiences a psychologically therapeutic experience. The research methodology will revolve around the theoretical framework of psychological healing and interactive narratives, while incorporating case studies and textual analysis to gain a deeper understanding of the healing properties of interactive narrative design and the psychological needs of users. By exploring the psychological processes of art therapy and identifying the elements and characteristics of art designs that bring psychological healing to audiences, this study seeks to establish a framework for healing- oriented interactive narrative art and design. On this basis, practical design work will be carried out, incorporating fundamental techniques of narrative therapy to create interac- tive narrative designs aimed at art therapy.Research indicates that the healing properties of interactive narrative art and design stem from individuals’ direct sensory experiences, a bidirectional experience of the body and mind, and narrative content based on the themes of ”fairy tales” and the ”real world.” The narrative aspect of healing art is key to the therapeutic effects of artistic works. The process by which this affects an individual’s psychology mainly occurs through two meth- ods: first, by creating a free and personalized fairy-tale world that serves as a sanctuary for the mind; second, by retelling, deconstructing, and reinterpreting pain, allowing the individual’s negative emotions to be vented and channeled, leading to a sense of emotional redemption. Animals are common elements in healing art. Interactive narrative designs featuring animals as main characters can connect visual and auditory senses, conveying the creator’s emotions beyond the limits of language, thereby offering psychological healing. The framework for interactive narrative design based on art therapy mainly covers three aspects: perception and emotional regulation, interaction and participatory experi- ence, and narrative and plot construction. From the perspective of art therapy, individuals’ perception of art, through the creation of a quiet and comfortable atmosphere, trigger- ing emotional memories and psychological imagination, helps the audience relax, relieve stress, and channel emotions. The audience’s interactive behavior enhances their sense of participation and control, which, through the impact on their physical state, strengthens their perception and consequently influences their cognitive state, ultimately affecting their psychological condition. Interactive narratives, based on nonlinear storytelling and integrating participatory narrative, spatial narrative, and narrative therapy, provide the audience with a sense of psychological healing. Finally, based on the above research, the researcher conducted practical interactive narrative design aimed at art therapy, incorporating relevant theories and techniques of narrative therapy.
