Fiber art has developed rapidly since the 1960s, characterized by its rapid changes, innovation, expansion of material range, and breakthroughs in artistic expression. Fiber art has absorbed the excellent traditional textile cultures from various countries around the world, and integrated the latest achievements in modern art concepts and textile technology, becoming an art form that is both ancient and young. Contemporary fiber art shows a comprehensive, diverse, and cross-disciplinary artistic appearance, tending to use new materials and techniques to exhibit more diverse and innovative art forms, expanding the boundaries of art. With the advancement and innovation of technology, fiber art creation has become more diverse and rich. The transparency of materials and visual presentation under light sources frequently appear in today’s fiber art creations, exhibiting unique charm. The translucent fiber materials’ unique transparency and layering of rich textures have extended the work’s content and field from multiple perspectives. Whether the material itself has a translucent property or a translucent medium formed by repeated linear language, the work’s interaction with people and the field in space adds a sense of breathing rather than a single entity’s surface visual language, which can better achieve the integration of internal and external, illusion and reality. The radiating and tensional of translucent fiber art are also its natural and inevitable interactive characteristics in space. As a new auxiliary element and technical means of artistic presentation, light sources have injected more vitality and innovation into fiber art: using fiber optic technology, artists can create fiber optic devices with dynamic effects, allowing the audience to feel changes in space and light. The translucent fiber materials form a translucent layer through light and shadow, exerting tension and extensibility in space visual language, creating more possibilities and innovative space, making works more layered and enhancing the charm and expressiveness of fiber art works.Emphasizing material expression is an important characteristic of contemporary artistic presentation and also the need for artistic perception that adapts to contemporary life. Therefore, this article will focus on the visual language formed by materials and light and shadow in space in translucent fiber art, analyzing the expression forms and characteristics of translucent fiber materials in art. Through the analysis of relevant artists in the field and related artworks, we will explore the new visual and spatial perception effects created by the blurred and flowing boundaries, tension and spatial field characteristics, flexibility, and variability of translucent fiber art. Through creative practice and analysis of works, we will demonstrate the aesthetic value and role of translucent fiber art.
