The research in this paper is about light color preferences in real-life situations. With the development of advanced lighting technology, LED-based lighting systems with independently adjustable luminance and color temperature are being improved, and the need for real-life contextual lighting based on environmental behavior and psychology, taking into account health and preferences, is becoming increasingly important. This study is based on lighting technology with independently adjustable luminance and color temperature and intelligent control, and the study of light color preferences in real situations is completed under non-laboratory simulation conditions through a combination of three types of typical daily situations (residential lighting, road lighting, and urban neighborhood lighting) and various research methods (literature review, field research, field measurements, subjective evaluation, and data analysis). In this study, we used descriptive statistics, analysis of variance, non-parametric tests, and correlation analysis to analyze the results of participants‘ lighting preferences in three types of real situations, and focused on the interaction effects of gender, age, color temperature, illuminance, and experimental temperature on light color preferences. The study showed that: (1) Under different behaviors, participants of different genders and ages had different preferences for residential lighting, general lighting tended to have low to medium color temperature, task lighting for reading and crafting tended to have medium to high color temperature, and there were no significant differences in color temperature preferences among participants of different ages and genders in the four behavioral modes; (2) Participans‘ color preferences for road lighting tended to be 2700 -2900 K. There was an interaction between experimental temperature, illuminance, and color temperature; (3) Participants‘ preferences for urban neighborhood lighting tended to be low to medium color temperature of 2300-3000 K. Color temperature and gender reflected different main effects and interactions. The above three experiments were combined to form light color preference research methods applicable to three real situations, to summarize the evaluation factors strongly related to light color preference and lighting preference, and to obtain the multi-factor evaluation results of color temperature in real situations. This study provides a new possibility for the research methods and experimental condition settings focusing on lighting preferences, provides suggestions for refined lighting design based on environmental, behavioral, psychological, and individual differences, and also provides a reference for the establishment of light color evaluation system and the update of lighting standards.
