Active school travel behaviour(STB)provides an opportunity to increase their activity level, improve their physical and mental health, and interact with the environment. However, the sharp downward trend makes it gradually evolve from a traffic problem into a broader health and social problem. A large number of studies have shown that the decision-making of general learning behavior is related to the spatial environment changes perceived by children and parents, which may be determined by the complex relationship between different spatial environment factors. So far, some studies are based on the built environment to explain the decision-making of school travel mode choice, but rarely reflect the multiple needs of children. There are still some studies focusing on the impact of public space on children's outdoor activities, free play and other specific needs, but rarely involving children's "whether to travel and how to travel" (Chapter 1). In fact, on the way to school, the necessary, spontaneous and social behaviors always take place in an intertwined mode. We need to have a compound understanding of children's STB. The residential street space around the campus should be satisfied from two aspects: children's school travel mode choice and the hierarchy of needs (Chapter 2).Therefore, taking children's STB survey and its psychological characteristics analysis as the breakthrough point, starting from the "paradigm shift" of neighborhood and street related theories that focuses on the relationship between pedestrian and motorized traffic, and combining with the presentation of behavior and scene by Environment-behavior Theory, the emphasis of flow and change by Flow Space Theory, and the balance of diversity and flow by Integral Urbanism, this study proposes a residential street space model coupling children's STB. It tries to introduce people's cognition and understanding of residential street space into dynamic social space, so as to realize the balance of efficiency and vitality, and the unity of safety and interest. And it can be used as the theoretical support for the construction of the evaluation system of residential street space which affects children's STB.Through the connection of flow carrier and flow node to the classification of built environment, and the connection of sense of direction and identity to the design features of public space, this study realizes the organic integration of the space of flows decision-making factors and the space of places quality criteria, and generates index system framework. Combining quantitative process of selecting and establishing the index, assigning and explaining the weight, and collection and analysis of data by AHP method, Delphi method and fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method, this paper constructs a relatively complete, scientific and practical evaluation system (Chapter 4, 5 and 6).Through the empirical study of the street space around five campuses and the horizontal comparative analysis of the evaluation results, it is found that: ① the evaluation results of the target layer have a strong resolution; ② There is no cross between the evaluation results of the influencing factors of the criterion layer, which shows obvious synchronization characteristics between the criterion layer and the target layer; ③ Although there are some overlaps in the evaluation results of sub criteria layer, they are mainly caused by the imbalance of influencing factors, and their fluctuation amplitude is negatively correlated with the evaluation results of target layer (Chapter 7). These findings basically reflect the value of the evaluation system in street space policy-making and planning intervention.
