以往学界对于郭绍虞先生学术贡献的研究大多偏重在中国文学批评史和古代文论方面,本文则将研究视野扩大至“文学观”的范围,试图更加全面地总结、分析并评价这位学者的治学成就。因为郭绍虞先生不仅是一位文学批评史大家,同时他也在语言文字学、文体学、文学史等方面广有涉猎且成果卓著。并且在他的理论体系中,语言文字论是作为文学理论的基础而存在的,两者之间有着贯通交融、相互印证的逻辑关系,这是他治学方式中极富特色但又往往被人们所忽视的一面。 郭绍虞十分注重从中国语言文字的特性出发来对待和解决语言上和文学上的各种问题,例如文学语言的音乐性、文言与白话的分离现象、行文欧化的利与弊、历史上文学类型的区分等等,这些问题几乎都可以追溯到汉语的音节特点以及“语词的弹性作用”这些根本的原因上,同时中国语言文字的特性也可以作为文学创作与文艺前进方向的重要指导。这种侧重于形式角度的治学思路往往使郭绍虞的立论具有客观、通达和折衷的色彩。 在文体论方面,郭绍虞既是中国现代文体学的学科首倡者,也在赋体、骈文和新诗等文体专类研究上有着不少独到之见,此外,在二十世纪二十年代他还曾借鉴美国文学理论家莫尔顿(R.G.Moulton)的文学进化论对中国古代的文体演变史进行过富有新意且具有比较诗学意义的探究。他的这些理论也是至今尚未被学界充分关注的。 此外本文也从“文学观念的历史叙述”这一角度去考察并分析郭绍虞在文学批评史方面的主要观点,将这种“观念史观”(关于文学观念的观念)作为郭绍虞文学观的重要组成部分进行研究。“文学观念的历史叙述”涉及到纯文学观、进化论与辩证思维的西学中用问题,也关联着文学的外形与内质、与钱钟书“复古”之争以及“文道关系”等方面的讨论。
Previous studies on Mr. Guo Shaoyu's academic contributions have mostly focused on the history of Chinese literary criticism and ancient literary theory. This paper expands the research field to the scope of "literary viewpoint" and tries to summarize, analyze and evaluate the scholar's academic achievements more comprehensively. Because Mr. Guo Shaoyu is not only a great critic of literature, but also he has dabbled in linguistics, stylistics, literary history and other fields and achieved outstanding results. And in his theoretical system, the theory of language and writing exists as the basis of literary theory, and there is a logical relationship between the two, which is very characteristic in his way of doing scholarly research but is often ignored by people. Guo Shaoyu attaches great importance to treating and solving various problems in language and literature from the characteristics of Chinese language and characters, such as the musicality of literary language, the separation of classical Chinese and vernacular Chinese, the advantages and disadvantages of Europeanization of writing, the distinction of literary types in history, etc. These problems can almost be traced back to the syllable characteristics of Chinese and the fundamental causes of "the elastic function of words". At the same time, the characteristics of Chinese language and characters can also serve as an important guide for literary creation and the direction of literature and art development. This kind of academic thinking, which focuses on formal angle, often makes Guo Shaoyu's argument objective, prudent and eclectic. In the aspect of stylistics, Guo Shaoyu is not only the initiator of modern stylistics in China, but also has many unique opinions on the research of stylistic specialties such as Fu style, parallel prose and new poetry. In addition, in the 1920s, he also used the literary evolution theory of the American literary theorist Moreton (R.G.Moulton) for reference to carry out an innovative and comparative poetic exploration on the history of stylistic evolution in ancient China. These theories of his have not been fully paid attention to by the academic circle up to now. In addition, this article also examines and analyzes Guo Shaoyu's main viewpoints on the history of literary criticism from the perspective of "historical narration of literary concepts", and studies this "concept history" (the concept of literary concepts) as an important component of Guo Shaoyu's literary concept. "Historical Narration of Literary Concept" involves the application of Western learning to pure literary concept, evolution theory and dialectical thinking. It is also related to the discussion on the appearance and inner quality of literature, the dispute with Qian Zhongshu on "restoring ancient ways" and the "relationship between literature and Tao".
