Wedgwood, as a ceramic brand with several hundred years of development, opened up a British industrialization production model. The development is full of creativity, entrepreneurship, heritage, and it is a truly English iconic prestigious brand.Wedgwood occupies an important position in the history of British and European ceramics. Therefore, an in-depth study on Wedgwood, for a more comprehensive understanding of the development conditions of the north Staffordshire English famous ceramic production areas and the European mainstream design in the field of modern ceramic design developmental path, has an important value and significance. This is a case study of the development and design of Wedgwood domestic porcelain. The research was mainly by literature research and field investigation. It includes a comprehensive study of imagery, graphics, artistic styles, art in the context of social history, and careful analysis through the different artistic styles of Wedgwood products in different periods. It analyses the social and historical environment of each period and reveals its close relationship with various social factors. The research ideas began with "the development of Wedgwood nearly two hundred and sixty years" and expanded on that theme. The development process can be divided into three stages according to the three different locations of Wedgwood factories: Burslem, Etruria and Barlaston. Beginning with an overview of the development of ceramic industry in north Staffordshire, the study summarizes the development status of representative ceramics and the background of the establishment. Then a comprehensive analysis of the characteristics and development patterns of the ceramic design in different periods of Wedgwood in the context of the then social situation and cultural phenomena is carried out, with illustration from specific design cases. Finally, through the analysis of contemporary Wedgwood management modes, and an in-depth study of the rise and development of ceramic design, this study explores its development intrinsic power and their unique advantages. This study shows that the Wedgewood experience provides beneficial references for the development of Chinese ceramic design and explores how it may influence future ceramic design modes and methods that fit in the context of China. Since there is barely in-depth publication on the development of Wedgwood design both in China and overseas, this dissertation is the first academic historical research in this field. The achievements of this study are: (1) a systematic analysis for the three different periods of development and design stages of Wedgwood; (2) a concise summary for the design style characteristics of the representative series in different periods; (3) an inductive conclusion for the basic features of the production and decoration process of Wedgwood ceramics; (4) a summary of the historical status and influence of Wedgwood. This innovative study includes, for the first time: (1) a thorough investigative study to clarify its development history and summarize the basic characteristics of representative ceramic series design style; (2) a systematic analysis of the artistry of the designers and artists who influenced the design and development of the Wedgwood ceramics. (3) a detailed introduction and documentation of the traditional handicraft technology of Wedgwood.
