Air Force pilots are high-tech arms of the military forces, undertaking difficult and high-risk combat missions. Their mental health is crucial for their combat performance. Air Force pilot cadets are important military reserve forces. Investigating their mental health level as well as its influencing factors is important for pilot training. In the present thesis focuses on the possible influence of perceived stress on pilot cadets’ mental health. Self-report data on perceived stress, resilience and mental health were collected from 601 participants, including pilot cadets, aviation flight trainees and normal university students. Pilot cadets' average perceived stress was significantly higher than that of normal students; pilot cadets' resilience was significantly better than both the civil aviation flight trainees and normal students; pilot cadets' mental health was significantly better than normal students. Correlation analyses revealed negative correlations between perceived stress and resilience, as well as between perceived stress and mental health, and a positive correlation between resilience and mental health. Further analyses showed that resilience served as a mediator between perceived stress and mental health, and this mediating effect was only observed for pilot cadets but not the other two participant groups. To sum up, our study explored the relationships among perceived stress, resilience and mental health in pilot cadets. Our findings may provide reference information for the adjustment and optimization of mental health during pilot cadet training.
