The protection and inheritance of cultural heritage is an important issue in current society. With the rapid development of information technology, digital technology has been widely used in the protection of the cultural heritage which provides new ideas and methods for the protection of cultural heritage. This thesis is established on the design perspective of digital reconstruction for cultural heritage; the goal is to build a set of the theoretical framework which is based on the field of design application. The digital reconstruction for cultural heritage belongs to the area of the cultural heritage digitization protection, this thesis first clarifies the essence and characteristics of digital reconstruction for cultural heritage and then give us a clear explanation: The digital reconstruction for cultural heritage is a process which use the advanced digital technology for the collection of the cultural heritage of the original state, records and generate renewable digital form, and then use a combination of technology and the humanities perspective through effective design means to design and re-interpretation, and the final results for presentation, research and public communication. And then, this thesis uses a specific case study “virtual display of Dun Huang Cultural heritage”, which proposed five design principles: Scientific artistically presented, the comparison of past and present and the comparison of temporal and spatial, self and open, virtual and real, subjective cognitive and sublimation. And in accordance with these principle proposed a conceptual framework for the design applications of Dun Huang cultural heritage digitization reconstruction. Subsequently this paper proposed the four modes of transmission for the digital cultural heritage: the experiential museum, the exhibition tour, the internet, the mobile tour which integration of the mobile terminal and the internet. And then this thesis analyses the similarities and differences of their application. Finally, this thesis proposed the core design principles of the digital reconstruction for cultural heritage: respect for the original design reproduction, emotional personalized experience; design language is easy to understand and accept. This thesis argues that by means of design to seek deep meaning behind the cultural heritage and the ultimate goal of fully help human beings to realize their own cultural reflection is an important issue, which was placed in front of the field of the digital reconstruction for cultural heritage. The essence of digital reconstruction for cultural heritage is to help the public shaping the self-culture, cognition and understanding of the cultural heritage and thinking condensed into are construction and reflection behavior from inner. This thesis is based on the application level, trying to build a more complete theoretical frame work for the design application of the digital reconstruction for cultural heritage; it can play a certain theoretical support and reference for design practice to the field of the digital reconstruction for cultural heritage.
