高尔夫球场使用信息管理系统可以更有效的安排工作，充分利用资源，有效提供管理者信息，以利于提高经营效率。高尔夫球场与酒店属于同一种行业，即服务业。卖的商品皆为同一种商品——即时间。当固定投资做完，它的价值只有与时间相关。当酒店房间没售出时，此房当日即不具有任何价值。酒店是按日出售一间房，而高尔夫球场是按小时出售场地的使用权，比酒店在管理上更细微。当一个酒店在建设时，一般认为信息管理系统是必须的。要不然不知道什么时候有房，有多少房可提供给客人。而高尔夫球场在中国并不是所有球场都信息化，这是因为许多球场生意都还未达到一定规模，因此，用手、笔的记录也可以满足现有需求。当高尔夫球场生意演进到一定规模时，信息化是必然的。而本课题即为研究高尔夫球场信息管理系统。通过对高尔夫球场信息管理系统的研究，我们有机会结合理论，总结现在使用的经验，用最新的技术知识，摒弃现有的包袱而重新设计一套系统。
The golf course information management system has many benefits such as efficient task arrangement and full utilization of resources. This helps provide managers more reliable data, and hence raise the productivity of the business.Golf courses and hotels are in the same industry, the service industry. They market the similar intangible product of time and the permission to employ the facility. When the construction of a hotel or golf course is completed and the fixed cost incurred, the profitability and the cash flow of the business are related to time. When a hotel has a vacant room, the value of that room is worth zero for the given day. Hotels’ business is to sell its rooms by the day; however, the golf courses’ business is to sell tee-off time by the minutes. Therefore, the golf course should be more tightly controlled during the daily management of its use of the facility.Selecting a suitable information management system is always part of a hotel operation's planning even when the hotel is still on the drawing board. Otherwise, the hotel operator would not know how many rooms it can sell for any given day. This is not true for golf course operators in China. Not all golf courses in China are computerized. The primary reason for lack of automation in golf industry is because most of the golf courses have not reached to the volume to justify the cost of a computer system and the manual system can suffice the needs at the moment. When the golf courses have enough volume (in terms of number of tee-off), it is imperative that an information management system is in place.My thesis is to explore the currently available proper golf course information systems and at the end of this study, I hope to present a system perimeter that can satisfy most of the golf course operators’ needs in China.
